The Chicago Curling Club is closed for the spring/summer, and is hard at work to prepare for the 2020-21 season, beginning in October.
As happened with curling across the country, our last season was shut down prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The club assembled a group of members with expertise in HR, site management, foodservice, icemaking, and corporate re-entry to look at how we could safely return to curling. In addition to relevant business guidelines under Phase 4 of the state's Restore Illinois plan, we've consulted best practice guidelines from the USCA, Curling Canada, and Scottish Curling. CCC is adopting safety measures to help keep members, guests, and employees as safe as possible. These measures include, but are not limited to:
Mask use throughout club, including on the ice
One person sweeping per shot
Social distance while curling, and while socializing post-game
In happier news, CCC has a couple of major initiatives underway. First, the renovation of our Mechanical Room is nearing completion. This involved a teardown and rebuild of the existing room, and purchase and installation of new icemaking equipment and temperature controls. This is on track for completion in August. You can read more about this project in this great recent Daily Herald article. This project is funded through Second City Curling's Campaign for the Next Generation.
Second, a web team has been hard at work preparing a new website. Look for that launch in September.
